Research Related Meetings

To be held in person at the Natcher Conference Center, NIH Main Campus, Bethesda, MD, and virtual, this meeting will bring together senior leaders and experts as well as junior investigators and trainees who are focused on the therapeutic interactions between radiation and immunotherapies. Participants will include clinical researchers, translational and basic scientists, NCI staff, cooperative clinical trial group leaders, and industry representatives. Clinical studies in recent years demonstrate opportunities for improving patient outcomes through integration of immunotherapies with radiation for the treatment of certain patients with locoregionally advanced or early-stage cancers. Yet other studies have shown no effect, and it remains unclear whether radiation therapy can alter response to immunotherapies to achieve clinically meaningful benefit. Presenters will evaluate the current state of clinical and preclinical sciences in this area and identify key challenges and opportunities for clinical translation of radiation-immunotherapy combinations.

Ionizing Radiation Exposure in Vulnerable Populations

Sponsored by the RNCP, NIAID, this meeting will be hybrid (In person at the NIAID Conference Center in Rockville, MD with a virtual Zoom attendance option. The goals of this workshop are to identify the specific challenges and needs of these vulnerable populations after exposure to radiation (neonatal, pediatric [0-21 years old], pregnant and lactating people, geriatric, and fetal populations); examine the state of science for radiation medical countermeasures & biodosimetry in these specialized populations; and discuss regulatory policies that influence the inclusion of these populations in the development of radiation medical countermeasures. More information on how to register will be sent soon.
